Water

A play by Sheila Siragusa based in part on Vandana Shiva’s book “Water Wars”

Cast: 12, M or W

Run Time: 90 minutes

This ensemble drama takes place in and around a fictional and nameless “council” of decision makers about the privatization of natural resources. The play affords for the creation of theatrical movement as intermittent chapters throughout.

The play is a celebration of the spiritual and cultural role that water has played in communities throughout history and an examination of one of the most vital issues of our time.

The play was produced at Central Connecticut State University with a talented ensemble of students, with whom this initial staging was created. In particular, a movement language was created and led by Doug Oliphant. His work framed the progression of the piece in a primary way.

The play was awarded the Social Justice Theatre award for an original work at The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in 2013.
